Spring is here and there is no better time  to cleanout that jewelry box than now! Keep the pieces you treasure and get rid of the pieces you haven’t worn in years. For those special pieces, use these tips from Reader’s Digest to clean them up with some simple home products. These tips will surely help bring back your jewlery’s luster and shine!

For dull-looking jewelry place 1 Alka-Seltzer in a cup full of water and within a few minutes your piece will be shining like new again!

To enhance your silver and gold, soak the pieces for 10 minutes in ½ cup clear ammonia mixed with 1 cup warm water. Wipe with a soft cloth and let dry.

To clean fine peices line a small bowl with aluminum foil. Fill the bowl with hot water and mix in 1 tablespoon of bleach-free powdered laundry detergent. Soak for 1 minute and let dry. You can use this to clean silverware as well!

Get rid of that tarnish from your silver by making a thickpaste with ¼ cup baking soda and 2 tablespoons of water. Apply with a damp sponge and gently rub, rinse, and dry.

For gold pieces, apply a light coating of baking soda, pour a bit of vinegar, and rinse clean.

Save some of your 6-pack to shine your solid gold pieces. Pour a little beer onto a soft cloth and rub it gently over the piece. Use another towel to dry.

Grab some Club Soda and soak your diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds to give them a sweet sparkle! Place your jewels in a glass full of Club Soda and soak overnight.

I am a Gold Rep with Karats to Riches starting with the company in April of 2011.  I became interested in this opportunity after hosting a gold party at my home.  At that time I was employed full time but knew the company was not in good shape.  Fearing a lay off I knew I needed a plan B.  A friend and I started this endeavor together; researching many companies before determining Karats to Riches was the best fit for both of us.

This has been a great opportunity and allowed me to build a savings account as the fear of being let go from my full time job became reality. I have met many interesting people through this business as well.  My favorite part of the job still is to tell the customer how much I can buy their gold for and watch their reaction.  I have seen tears, laughter and shock.  One particular woman brought every piece of jewelry she owned to her daughter’s party.  After testing the pieces I found that only a few pieces were gold, but because of the high gold prices I was still able to offer her several hundred dollars.  Tears started to flow, she went on to explain the financial situation she was in and how much this money would help, the whole time holding my hand.
